COMMUNITY LEARNING GARDEN UPDATE; PLANT DONATION DEADLINE EXTENDED
May was a busy and fruitful month for the gardens: we built the gardens AND we received $63 in donations for the gardens during the monthly AHNA meeting. Thank you to everyone that donated – we will keep you informed of how your donations contributed to the gardens.
We had a good turnout May 15th to build the Community Learning Gardens at Thomas Place Community Center. The weather was fantastic and we got everything done quickly. Dave Marshall ensured all the wood to build the garden plots was cut ahead of time and we had fresh, healthy dirt delivered in a huge dump truck right to the gardens! So all we had to do was assemble the plots on-site and fill in each plot with dirt. Everyone had a role and ensured that we got things done efficiently. Thanks again to everyone that participated!
This summer, the Thomas Place Community Center has (3) three separate camps for kids (for varying age groups) and each camp is going to adopt a garden plot. They will water the entire garden every day (when it doesn’t rain) and in exchange we (as a community) need to ensure the kids get the most out of this experience.
Do you have any plants you would like to donate to the kids’ plots?
Plants are due directly to the center ON JULY 23 (DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED)
- plants can be divided from your own garden and donated, or purchased
- plants can be landscape variety or edible
- no seeds at this time, please
Do you have an interest in speaking to the kids about gardening techniques?
We would like someone to speak to the kids in late-July or early-August. For interest in participating in any of the exciting things we have going on with the Community Learning Garden, please contact Tatiana Wicke at twicke@gmail.com
