FLOOD DAMAGE FROM APRIL STORMS
Flood damage from the storms on April 25 and 26 was citywide. Thankfully, there was no loss of life. But, there will be lots of insurance claims filed.
Some of our neighbors on Carleton and Ashland Avenues were hit hard, mostly from mud and debris that came rushing down from the empty lots on the west side of Carleton that are slated to be redeveloped into new floodproof homes. Several homeowners ended up with very muddy swimming pools, gutted pool equipment, and damaged garages.
A car parked in this garage was totaled after being covered with three feet of water.
Cleanup crews and city staff were on site almost immediately. Environmental staff conducted a site inspection and met with the contractor.
A citation was issued for sediment removal and required installation of mitigation to control erosion and sediment.
The streets and most of the sidewalks were cleared of the sediment and debris before the end of the day.
The Stormwater Department is analyzing the rainfall totals and assessing the damage it caused. We expect some kind of a public meeting once that’s completed. If you experienced any property damage and have photographs or videos, please send them to amy.lopez@fortworthtexas.gov and be sure to include the location of the photograph with as many coordinates as possible.
