This month’s General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20 where we will be joined by Steve Huddleston, senior horticulturalist for the FW Botanic Gardens since 1994. With 23 years of gardening experience, Steve will discuss gardening in North Texas along with practical advice and tips for gardeners at every level. Points of discussion include choosing the right plants, understanding light, preparing clay for planting, watering, weeding and fertilizing. Feel free to bring in samples from your garden along with questions and comments for Steve.

Information used during during this discussion can be found in Steve’s new book, Easy Gardens for North Central Texas co-authored with landscape architect, Pamela Crawford. The book will be available for purchase for $32.42 via cash and check and Steve will be on hand to autograph copies.

From the publisher of Easy Gardens for North Central Texas:

It’s time to learn a new way of gardening in north central Texas. Our temperatures are rising while our rainfall amounts are falling. Bees are disappearing, and butterflies are diminishing. We are all concerned that the activities of man might actually be harming our environment. At the same time, people are busier than ever, and few have time to devote to maintenance-intensive landscapes. Budgets are stretched to the limit. The purpose of this book is to show plants and gardening techniques that help our environment and fit into our busy, budget-driven lifestyles.

Colorful, simple, low-water plants for the tough, north central Texas environment.
