Newly Appointed Diversity Task Force Begins Work

August 6, 2009 · Filed Under Events and News

A task force appointed by the city manager to advise him on issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens held its first meeting and has set an agenda of additional topics to be addressed.

The task force, comprised of city staff and community leaders representing Fort Worth’s rich diversity, was charged with providing input on three tasks:
• providing city employees with appropriate training on customer service for LGBT citizens
• increasing community awareness of the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance and inclusiveness policies
• facilitating better communication between the city and LGBT citizens.

The task force has accepted this charge and created three subcommittees — human resources, community relations, and economic development — to study each of the identified topics and provide recommendations. The subcommittees will be comprised of members from the task force, and more participants may be added.

The Diversity Task Force is scheduled to meet the fourth Thursday in August, September and October.
