September 2, 2009 · Filed Under Events and News

According to several reports, the city plans on expanding the program by 10 more cameras by October 2009, even though the fines give the city just $220,000 in revenue. And the collected money has to be spent for safety.

Here’s the breakdown:

Total amount of traffic camera penalties – $1,207,710.33

Expenses of program – $765,441.80

Total amount left for state/city: $442,268.53

State’s Share; $221,134.27

Fort Worth share for Traffic Safety Fund: $221,134.27

“The fines are used first to pay the cost of operation,” explained council member Burdette. “Anything over that we split between the State of Texas and the city. We are mandated by law to take our share, any of that excess, and put them into traffic related improvements.”
