TIPS FOR RESIDENTS HIRING SNOW STORM CLEAN-UP HELP
Reminder: City will pick up tree debris for free
After a storm, residents may need services for things such as electrical work, roofing repair or tree trimming and removal. While there are many reputable individuals and companies in the area that provide these services, it is not uncommon for unscrupulous people to capitalize on that demand even though they may not be qualified to do the job.
The City of Fort Worth offers the following tips when hiring a service provider:
- Make sure they are part of an established business in the community or nearby area.
- Have them provide you with evidence that they are actually working for the company, rather than moonlighting.
- Ask whether they have appropriate insurance.
- Ideally, they should be members of a professional association and be certified to perform the service they are offering.
- If possible, get more than one estimate to ensure that the price offered is competitive with that offered by others for the same services.
- Have a clear understanding of the work that is to be performed and the price.
- Don’t be pressured into making a decision. Take the time to find a qualified professional.
Also, be sure you don’t pay for services you don’t need. If you are doing the work yourself, the City of Fort Worth offers three free ways to dispose of yard debris and other bulky waste.
- Yard waste and loose brush will be picked up during weekly collections. Residents should place loose brush at the curb by 7 a.m. on their garbage/recycling pickup day. Please note, due to weather, collections have been moved forward.
- Larger bulk collections are picked up monthly. Residents should place items on the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday of their assigned week.
- Tree limbs and yard waste can also be taken to one of the City’s three drop-off stations.
If you are paying someone to haul away your debris, they should take it to the City landfill or compost area and provide you with a landfill ticket before you pay for the service.
