YMCA PARTNERSHIP OPENS SOME POOLS TO ALL FORT WORTH RESIDENTS

Due to budget cuts, six of the seven City of Fort Worth public swimming pools will not open for the 2010 season. However, the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth and the City have developed an agreement to open some Y pools to the public beginning June 5. All residents will be able to use outdoor pools at four local YMCA locations seven days a week, 2 to 4 p.m. Admission prices will be $1 for children and $1.50 for adults.

Fort Worth YMCA locations open for public swimming include:

  • McDonald Community YMCA, 2400 East Berry St.
  • Eastside YMCA, 1500 Sandy Lane
  • E.R. Van Zandt Southwest YMCA, 4750 Barwick Drive
  • Westside YMCA, 8201 Calmont Ave.

The Parks and Community Services department will also operate Forest Park Pool, 2850 Park Place,  76110. Here is the pool schedule:

  • May 29-30, Memorial Day weekend: 1-7 p.m.
  • May 31, Memorial Day: noon-6 p.m.
  • June 5-6: 1-7 p.m..
  • June 7: Closed
  • June 8: Regular season schedule begins; Tuesday-Sunday, 1-7 p.m.
  • Aug. 15: Regular season schedule ends; weekend-only hours begin
  • Aug. 21-22 and 28-29: Weekend swim, 1-7 p.m.
  • Sept. 6, Labor Day: Last day of pool season; noon-6 p.m.

Forest Park Pool admission prices will increase to $2 for children and $2.50 for adults.

These City pools will remain closed: Como, Hillside, Kellis, Marine, Sycamore and Sylvania.
