If you haven’t already filled out the citizens survey for the Urban Tree Master Plan, you have until the end of February to do it. This is a rare opportunity for you to share your views about trees in Fort Worth. Good news is that you can fill out the survey as many times as you want! Neighborhood Patrol Officer Andy Morcheco will give a neighborhood crime report.
If you care about trees, you don’t want to miss the evening’s guest speaker Bryan Lyness, Urban Forester for the City of Fort Worth. A landscape architect, Bryan has designed a number of the most recent parks in Fort Worth. He is responsible for enforcing the city tree ordinances on all trees on private land in Fort Worth, which sometimes includes interfacing with developers who want to remove old growth trees for new development. Bryan’s presentation will cover what’s included in the Fort Worth tree ordinance, as well as the pending Urban Forest Master Plan that’s currently underway.
Cheri Cuellar, Urban Forester Coordinator for the Texas Trees Foundation, will also be in attendance. She is interested in gathering comments from citizens about Fort Worth’s pending Urban Forest Master Plan. She will have hard copies of a survey for people to fill out.

ATTENTION ALL TREE HUGGERS
Trees do much more than make our cities beautiful. They are an incredibly important resource because of the integral role they play in air quality and mitigating the effects of dry, scorching summers. Trees have become an extra hot topic, thanks to the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act’s $1.5 billion allocation for urban tree planting for this year alone.
Fort Worth’s tree canopy is estimated to cover about 19% of the city. Benchmarking with other cities, that’s low. A goal of 30% canopy coverage is what The Texas Trees Foundation, along with the City of Fort Worth, are hoping for as they develop the city’s first Urban Forest Master Plan.
Citizens are encouraged to fill out a survey about trees in Fort Worth, including ways to improve Fort Worth current tree ordinance. You can fill out a survey through the end of February 2023. BOTANIC GARDEN WELCOMES DOGS
Leash up the hounds and head to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Dog Days. It’s year two for the popular canine program that’s expanding to one weekend a month, starting January 14-15.
Here are the rules: all dogs must be leashed, be more than four months old and up to date on vaccinations. Dogs must be socialized and well-behaved; if they are seen acting aggressively, Garden staff reserves the right to ask owners to leave. Dog waste must be bagged and placed in trash receptacles. The Garden supplies the bags.
Here is the Dog Days schedule through May 2023:
• January 14-15
• February 4-5
• March 11-12
• April 8-9
• May 6-7
Dog Days are held during regular garden hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter; 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the summer. Admission is $5 per dog, in addition to the regular admission for humans. Admission is free to Fort Worth Botanic Garden members, but dogs are still charged $5 a dog.
